in Rua Red, South Dublin Arts Centre, Tallaght, Dublin 24
From 26th September – 17th October 2009
The Leinster Printmaking Studio, founded in 1998 by Margaret Becker in Clane, Co. Kildare, represents a group of professional artists coming together to share resources knowledge and expertise.
On their tenth anniversary in 2008 they decided to create a group exhibition inspired by the bog. They felt that this theme was rich in possibilities; from the visual aspects of landscape and plant and animal life, in texture colour and pattern; the associations with ancient history and traditions of burial and sacrifice; the cultural associations with the tradition of bog cutting and saving the turf which is deep in all our memories, to the poetic and lyrical tradition that has been inspired by the bog. They were also interested in more recent concerns around conservation and preservation.
Among the artists exhibiting are from Alice Hanratty, Rebecca Homfray, Ros Longwill, Jonathan McCann, Margaret Becker, Bethan Hodgson, Pamela de Bri, Katherine Smits, Deirdre Shanley, Tracey Sweeney, Eileen Keane, Charlie Hulgraine and Catherine Mann. With other LPS members work specially invited members, they have created a rich and rewarding exhibition using a wide range of printmaking techniques - traditional etching, carborundum, photoetch, lino print, silk screen, woodblock, plate lithography, digital print and collograph.
