Gaetano Tranchino
The Place of Memory -
An exhibition of paintings
Venue: RUA Red, South Dublin Arts Centre, Tallaght, Dublin 24
Alternative Entertainments are delighted to present the work of renowned Sicilian painter Gaetano Tranchino. Gaetano was born in Syracuse, Sicily in 1938 and this is his first solo exhibition in Ireland. He has exhibited widely across Italy and Sicily – his first solo exhibition was at the Galleria Toninelli in Milan in 1964. Since then he has enjoyed successful shows in Palermo, Rome, Padua, Bologna, Catania, Taormina, and of course, Syracuse, as well as shows in Germany, France, Belgium, New York and Houston.
Recurring themes in Gaetano’s paintings include nature and the sea, often featuring a ship or a lone figure set against an immense landscape. His paintings are dynamic and filled with vitality, executed in rich, vibrant tones evocative of the Mediterranean. These paintings are not representative of reality as we know it –they have a wonderful dreamlike quality about them, inviting us to step outside the mundanity of our everyday lives and become a part of his unique Sicilian vision.
The exhibition will open to the public on Monday 19th April and will continue until Saturday 22nd May 2010.
