‘'INCURSION'
An exhibition of photographs by Paul Lynam
These photographs were taken on regular visits around Ireland, in Mayo and Donegal, in my home county Limerick and on trips to Clare and Dubrovnik in Croatia.
I am drawn to recoding nature's incursion on the workings of man: the lichen growth on a lighthouse wall at 'Fanad Head', peeling paint on an old blue boat at Westport quay, rust, slime, moss - nature's ongoing battle to re-establish itself within the space it once occupied.
My first one-person exhibition in 2005 focused on man's intrusion on nature, the food harvesting and fuel gathering practices that leave such a distinctive mark on the landscape. Both exhibitions are also concerned with beauty, the uncovering of a hidden aesthetic where you would least expect to find it.
