Alternative Entertainments is delighted to announce that its Musician-in-Residence for 2012/13 is Ronan Browne. We're very honoured to have Ronan on board for this important and inspirational facet of our annual programme, in which masters of the tradition spend time with school children and teachers from both primary and secondary schools in the South County Dublin region, and with local musicians, passing on practical and historical elements of Ireland's traditional arts culture. This project helps to introduce a burgeoning population of traditional musicians in the region to the history, theory and musical tradition and practices of a vitally important group of musicians from the tradition. Schools are exposed to another facet of the traditional arts hitherto not explored in the day-to-day syllabus. Teachers receive tuition on the transmission of this important body of music, so insuring a wider dissemination to music students in the region. Musicians active in the area expand their musical knowledge and their store of tunes. While some of Ronan's engagement will be with school groups a good deal of the residency will be open to the public, so keep an eye on this space and we'll keep you posted. If anyone is interested in receiving email updates on the residency email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will include you in our regular email updates.
